Exploring Hijikata

This specific workshop is focusing on the methods and texts of the founder of butoh Tatsumi Hijikata, contextualising it for contemporary and future performing arts of 21st century.
Through examining his texts as well as his choreography notation recorded by his dancers, approaching to it both theoretically and practically, the workshop will attempt to extract universal method that enables us to expand the concept of "body" or "human" and to allow us to embody unlimited diverse qualities of the universe.
In the same time, the workshop intends to shed a critical light on it and searches for its evolution.
For Who? This workshop is suitable for beginners as actors, dancers, architects, visual artists, bodyworkers and all those who are interested in the body.
Objectives:
- Exploring the method of embodiment of the images.
- Establishing the connection between physical and metaphysical levels.
- Exploring the method of creations of space (not only physical movement, but creation of space is essential)
- Examining ‘Butoh’ style, taste, and ideas, with creative critical attitude.
- Thus, blooming lotus in the mud of Butoh
Motimaru was founded in Tokyo by Motoya Kondo & Tiziana Longo, two dancers trained at the Kazuo Ohno Butoh Dance Studio. Motimaru aims to grasp the essence of butoh and also have researched about Balinese dance, Noh theater, Modern dance, Sufi dance, to find intersections between the West and the East, the ancient and the modern in a continuous line across cultures rooted in nature
